Applications now open for Year 10 Work Experience Summer 2018

September 22, 2017 | By |

As in previous years I am sure we will be over-subscribed for some of the more popular weeks.  The dates for Year 10 Work Experience Weeks next year are:

  • 14 – 18 May 2018
  • 18 – 22 June 2018
  • 2 – 6 July 2018
  • 9 – 13 July 2018

How places are allocated

To ensure that the application process is fair we are allocating two places per school initially. We are asking that any interested students complete an application form and return it to their School’s Work Experience Co-ordinator and not directly back to the hospital. Please be aware that unfortunately we are unable to accept requests that have not come through the school’s Work Experience Co-ordinator.

The Work Experience Co-ordinator will decide which students to allocate places to but may reserve two spaces on the chosen week and send the names and application forms at a later date. If we have spaces remaining on any of the weeks listed, then we are happy to allocate these to schools who require more placements. Therefore, any schools that are flexible with dates their students can attend are likely to get more places.

What can you expect from a Year 10 Work Experience Placement

Due to the difficulty in placing students under the age of 16 in clinical areas for any length of time these weeks will be predominantly based in a classroom setting with sessions facilitated by Health Professionals alongside some visits to the wards and other clinical areas. It will also include input from Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Cornwall Council to give an overview of the many different careers in health and care rather than just those in an acute setting such as the Royal Cornwall Hospital. In addition to these “clinical” placements, we may be able to offer a limited amount of “non-clinical” placements such as admin, finance, IT etc. These placements would be offered in addition to the two places for the “clinical” Work Experience weeks.
